A Guide's Guide to panthertown
Burt Kornegay's "A Guide's Guide to Panthertown" is the most detailed guide to Panthertown Valley, a 6,311-acre backcountry recreation area in western North Carolina's Nantahala National Forest, east of Cashiers.
Panthertown is often called the “Yosemite of the East” because of its granite domes and sheer cliffs. Panthertown offers over 30 miles of backcountry trails winding along mountain creeks and cascading waterfalls, through broad valleys, deep gorges, and a rare high-altitude bog.
This popular map shows the official U.S. Forest Service trails plus unofficial footpaths within Panthertown Valley, Bonas Defeat, and Big Pisgah. It also locates waterfalls, overlooks, creeks, and trailheads.
"A seasoned wilderness guide who literally created the trail map that brings adventurous hikers into Panthertown, Burt knows the area like few others."
